Paradigm Secures $1.2 Billion for Fourth Fund

Paradigm, one of the most prominent names in crypto venture capital, has raised $1.2 billion for its fourth fund, signaling a significant expansion into broader technology markets. The firm announced on July 8, 2026 that the new vehicle will back builders in cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other frontier technology areas. Co-founder Matt Huang and managing partner Alana Palmedo confirmed the fund, emphasizing that Paradigm began in 2018 with a focus on frontier markets and will continue to invest “first in crypto” while expanding its mandate.

Crypto Remains Central to the Strategy

Despite the broader scope, Paradigm made clear that digital assets remain a core focus. The firm stated it will “continue investing in crypto” and in companies building market infrastructure and financial systems. Examples cited include Hyperliquid (crypto derivatives), Kalshi (prediction markets), and Tempo (a stablecoin and agent-friendly blockchain project co-founded with Stripe).

Internal Development and Open-Source Contributions

Paradigm continues to support blockchain infrastructure through its own research and software development. The firm highlighted Foundry and Reth as ongoing open-source projects. Additionally, Paradigm built EVMbench in collaboration with OpenAI to test AI agents for smart contract security, underscoring the intersection of AI and crypto.

Expanding into AI and Robotics

The fourth fund gives Paradigm more room to back companies outside blockchain. Notable portfolio examples include Zipline (drone delivery), SendCutSend (rapid manufacturing), True Anomaly (space defense), and Nous Research (open AI). This shift reflects a broader trend in venture capital, as AI funding captures the largest share of global investment in 2026.

The AI Agent Theme in Crypto VC

Paradigm is not alone in this move. Other crypto-linked investors are following similar paths: in June 2024, a fund raised capital for crypto, AI, robotics, and energy startups, while Hack VC secured funding in May 2024 for crypto infrastructure, tokenization, and AI agents. The common thread is the potential overlap between digital assets, stablecoins, and machine-led software—such as AI agents requiring payment rails, identity checks, and settlement systems that operate with minimal manual intervention.

Market Context and Competitive Landscape

The fund launch comes amid a period of concentrated venture capital flows. According to Crunchbase, the first half of 2026 saw record global startup funding, with OpenAI and Anthropic collectively capturing more than 40% of the total. This concentration explains why crypto funds are closely watching AI. Paradigm’s $1.2 billion raise positions it to compete for top founders across multiple fast-moving sectors, offering a larger capital source during a more selective crypto funding cycle.

In summary, Paradigm’s fourth fund reinforces its commitment to blockchain while embracing a broader frontier technology strategy. The firm’s message to builders is direct: “come build with us.” For the crypto industry, this means one of its largest backers now views blockchain as part of a wider technological ecosystem rather than a standalone asset class.
